Candidate Name: Jamie Spinney
Jamie was born in British Columbia and has lived in many Canadian provinces before moving to Nova Scotia. After graduating from High School in Truro, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Saint Mary’s University, a Bachelor of Education degree from Dalhousie University, a Master of Urban and Rural Planning degree from Dalhousie University, an Advanced Diploma in Fisheries Management from the Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University, and an Advanced Diploma in Applied Geomatics Research from the Centre of Geographic Sciences (COGS) in Lawrencetown, Nova Scotia. Jamie is currently living in Middleton and completing his PhD degree from McMaster University.
With decades of training and experience, Jamie is interested in addressing contemporary social, economic, and environmental issues through improved public policy. For example, he is currently engaged in doctoral research aimed at evaluating an alternative municipal tax system that promotes increased fairness and equity while mitigating the negative environmental impacts of human settlements. He is also working on a research project that examines how governments can improve public health by promoting participation in physical activities. Jamie has worked on a wide variety public policy research projects for several different clients such as the Nova Scotia Teachers Union, Municipality of the County of Colchester, the Dutch Ministry of Transportation, Statistics Canada, and the United Nations.
Jamie understands the opportunities and issues facing rural Nova Scotia and both his training and experience afford him with the passion and knowledge required to successfully represent the residents of Annapolis County.
