Rebecca Mosher has been involved in seven elections or by elections for the provincial and federal Green Parties in Nova Scotia since 2003 as a candidate or organizer.

"Despite all that effort,I will tell you that I am no politician - in fact I am terrified at the thought of speaking publicly - but I believe I must - for the sake of this planet and our children."

"Make that grandchildren as well, because I am about to become a grandmother and I want a beautiful healthy peaceful green world for them too."

Rebecca was born in 1951, in Ireland, Antigonish county
(" almost to College Grant - so far back in the woods that you had to come out to hunt.")

She was one of 14 children born to Peggy and Donald Steeves. "Dad cut wood and you know the pulp companies didn't pay much - some years most of our cash income was the old Baby Bonus."

"But my Dad had his limits - he wasn't going to clearcut and ruin the forest bed and streams to make a bit more instant money - he tried to do what he could to leave something for his children, his neighbours and future generations."

Rebecca says it is the same greed that fueled Wall Street and produced a Depression in 1929 and again this year that is desecrating the land ,air and water of this planet.

"When everything we eat and buy seems to come from China, no wonder we have no local jobs and Antigonish's young people have to move, after graduation, to dig a big hole in Alberta's tar sands."

"This province used to be able to feed itself in most food categories - now we are basically only self sufficient in blueberries."

"The good news is that when the high prices for gas come back in 2012, its sting will help as well as hurt Antigonish."

"When the food that is currently shipped into our county from thousands of miles away starts costing a fortune in gas and in refrigeration bills, we can once again hope to compete against it with locally grown, safe-to-eat food."
