Candidate Name: Todd Pettigrew

Born and raised in Ontario, Todd Pettigrew has been active in Cape Breton life since moving to the island in the summer of 2000. He is currently Associate Professor of English and Chair of the Department of Languages and Letters at Cape Breton University. At CBU he teaches English, conducts research in a variety of areas, and has served on numerous boards and committees including the university Senate.

He is the recipient of many academic awards and honours and holds, in addition to other degrees, a Ph.D. from the University of Waterloo (1998).

He is a well-known actor and theatre director appearing regularly in shows at the Boardmore Playhouse. He is also an enthusiastic musician and sings with The Cape Breton Chordsmen. Each spring he travels across the country working as an official with the Canspell national spelling bee, serving at numerous regional events and as a judge at the national finals in Ottawa.

Dr. Pettigrew lives in Glace Bay with his partner Stephanie Hill.
