Amy Florian was born in Nova Scotia and has resided in the province her entire life. Amy is presently working in Halifax towards the completion of her Bachelor of Science degree from Dalhousie University, with combined honours in Biochemistry and French. Amy is bilingual and her two biggest passions in life are healthy living and the environment.
Amy lives a community-engaged life. Amy has volunteered for the Canadian Cancer Society for ten years, working mainly in the Health Promotion area of the Nova Scotia Division. Amy also sits on one of division’s committees and has served a local unit board member in 2006.
Amy has been the site-coordinator for the TD Canada Trust Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup for three shorelines in Nova Scotia. In 2008, Amy was named by TD “Site-Coordinator of the Year” for all of Canada. Amy has been active with Clean Nova Scotia and with various sustainability movements at her university.
With a keen interest in politics, Amy helped coordinate the ‘Get out the Vote’ campaign at Dalhousie University to encourage student voting in the last federal election. She has experience representing her constituents on student councils over the years and on local community boards concerning the areas of economics, the environment and education, to name a few.
Amy has volunteered with a community Lion’s Club for over five years and has spent time caring for seniors who reside in hospitals long-term. Amy’s dedication to her community has been recognized as she is the recipient of several local, provincial, and national leadership awards.
Amy is confident that she has the experience and the passion needed to serve her home province.
